IAS or Imposter? How One Officer Shattered the Dream of a Nation

The Betrayal Behind the Badge

When a young man cracks the UPSC exam, the nation applauds. Families celebrate. Coaching centres advertise. Social media explodes with “hard work pays” slogans. But what happens when that very symbol of hope turns into a predator in power?

Meet Dhiman Chakma, 2021 batch IAS officer, a Computer Science graduate from NIT Agartala. A man once hailed as the pride of Tripura, now exposed as nothing more than a polished white-collar extortionist.

Caught red-handed accepting a ₹10 lakh bribe, Dhiman wasn’t just dipping his toes in corruption—he had dived into it headfirst. His full bribe demand? A whopping ₹20 lakh, allegedly for threatening a businessman with government action unless paid off.

And what did investigators find when they raided his home?

₹47 lakh in cold, hard cash. Neatly bundled, unapologetically stashed.

From Civil Services to Criminal Syndicates

The Indian Administrative Service is supposed to be the steel frame of this country. But when officers like Dhiman Chakma enter the system, they don’t reinforce the frame—they corrode it from the inside out.

This isn’t just one bad apple. It’s proof that the barrel itself is being neglected.

And let’s be clear—Dhiman isn’t poor. He’s educated, he cleared one of the toughest exams in the world, and he had a stable government job with the power to uplift lives. Yet, he chose greed. Not survival—greed.

So what excuse do we give this time?

That he was stressed?

That he came from a humble background?

That this is how the system works?

No. Enough.

A System Built on Hypocrisy

While this IAS officer was hoarding lakhs under his bed, a farmer in Madhya Pradesh drank pesticide over a failed loan of ₹80,000. A widow in Uttar Pradesh was beaten by a bank recovery agent over a ₹2 lakh housing loan EMI. And let’s not forget the thousands of youth slogging 15 hours a day preparing for the UPSC exams—believing that merit and honesty still matter.

What do we tell them now?

That clearing the exam is just a license to loot?

That IAS now stands for “I Am Supreme”?

Accountability or Acquittal?

We’ve seen this before. Arrests. Headlines. Media debates. And then? Bail. Delay. Distraction. Promotion, sometimes.

Here’s a brutal truth:

If Dhiman Chakma isn’t stripped of his post, jailed under the harshest anti-corruption laws, and made an example of, then we’re sending a message to every future IAS aspirant: Don’t serve the nation—just learn to exploit it smartly.

The Public Has Had Enough

We don’t want fake apologies.

We don’t want PR-controlled media statements.

We want real justice.

Let this be a wake-up call—not just for bureaucrats, but for every citizen who still believes this nation can change.

Let’s stop celebrating toppers. Start watching their actions.

Let’s stop worshipping the rank. Start respecting the character.

Because it’s not the UPSC that builds India. It’s what you do after clearing it.

Final Words:

Dhiman Chakma didn’t just take bribes—he broke trust.

He didn’t just steal lakhs—he looted the integrity of a system meant to serve.

And unless we demand accountability louder than the silence of the system, we are all complicit in letting this rot continue.

Wake up, India. Before every honest officer becomes the exception—and the Dhimans of this world become the rule.
