When Honesty Gets Suspended: The Dayananda Incident
đľď¸ Who is B. Dayananda?
B. Dayananda is an IPS officer and Bengaluruâs Police Commissioner. He is known among his team and city officials as a disciplined, no-nonsense officer who served Karnataka with full dedication. Until recently, he had a clean record with no major controversy attached to his name.
But on June 4, 2025, something shocking happened â he was suspended by the Karnataka government.
â ď¸ What Happened at Chinnaswamy Stadium?
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) victory celebration was held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, just one day after their playoff win. In that huge rush of excitement, there was poor crowd control. The event got overcrowded and chaotic, leading to a stampede that killed 11 people.
This was a public tragedy. Instead of finding out who approved and rushed the event, the state government chose to suspend B. Dayananda and four other senior police officers, saying they failed in their duty.
đŤ But Was It Really Their Fault?
Thatâs the real question.
According to Indian Police Foundation and over 30 retired IPS officers, this suspension was nothing but scapegoating. They believe these police officers are being punished just to show that âaction was taken,â while the real decision-makers who approved the risky event are not being questioned.
Even Union Minister V. Somanna said publicly that Dayananda had no direct role in managing the stadium event. He said the officer was being unfairly blamed.
Police sources also confirmed that warnings were given in advance, saying the event couldnât be safely managed in such a short time.
đ¤ Who Gave Permission for the Event?
This is where it gets political.
The event was cleared by the state government very quicklyâtoo quickly. There was no proper crowd management plan, and the police were reportedly told to manage things at the last minute.
So why arenât the politicians or event organizers being held responsible?
Because itâs easier to blame the police than admit the failure of government planning.
âď¸ What Happens Next?
A judicial inquiry has been launched. The suspended officers, including Dayananda, are fighting the case in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). The inquiry will take around one month to submit a final report.
Until then, the public is demanding one thing: stop punishing the honest while protecting the powerful.

đ¨ Final Thoughts
This is not just about one officer. Itâs about a patternâwhere honest officers are punished, and real culprits hide behind power and position.
B. Dayananda didnât fail the system.
The system failed him.
If we want real justice, we must look beyond press releases and political drama. Blaming a sincere cop wonât bring back the lives lost. Only accountability at the top level can.
Letâs be honest: this suspension smells more like politics than justice.
