Why Some Political Cyber Teams Are Targeting the Movie Empuraan on Social Media
The much-awaited Malayalam movie Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj, released worldwide yesterday and is already creating history in box office collections across the globe. But while movie lovers are celebrating this cinematic masterpiece, a storm is silently brewing on social media — and it’s not from film critics, but from political cyber teams.
From BJP to CPI(M) to even some Congress-connected social media groups, many politically influenced pages and profiles are trying to spread negativity about Empuraan. Why? Let’s try to understand what’s really happening behind the scenes.
Why BJP Is Upset

The main anger from BJP supporters is due to two things shown in the movie:
- The Godhra-like event shown in the story – The movie has a scene that many feel resembles the tragic Godhra train burning incident, which led to the Gujarat riots. Even though the movie doesn’t mention names directly, the visuals and storyline are too close for comfort, and it didn’t go well with many BJP members.
- The villain character named ‘Bajrangi’ – This name is very close to a popular Hindu nationalist image, and linking it with a negative character has made many BJP supporters feel insulted.
Also, today in Trivandrum, BJP held a special internal meeting regarding Empuraan. They discussed how the censor board, which has 4-5 jury members linked to BJP, gave approval to the movie without noticing these sensitive references. However, in the end, the party decided not to take any action against the movie and made it clear: the movie will go its way, and the party will go its own way.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who earlier tweeted that he wants to watch Empuraan, was also asked about his statement. His reply was simple — Mohanlal is a good friend, and that’s why he expressed interest in watching it.
Why CPI(M) Is Also Not Happy

The movie also includes a humorous scene that indirectly makes fun of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan. A Thiruvathira-style dance moment, which looks similar to an old viral video involving the CM, is shown in the movie in a sarcastic tone. Though it’s subtle, CPI(M) cyber groups are actively trying to downplay the movie and spread counter-narratives.
What’s more, the movie throws in a sharp one-liner sarcastically pointing out that “CPI(M) only exists in Kerala – a small place when we look at the whole Indian constituency”. This dialogue, though said in passing, directly mocks the limited national relevance of the party, which would obviously sting hardcore CPI(M) followers.
Congress Cyber Teams Exposing Dynasty Politics

Even some Congress-linked pages are not fully supporting the movie. Why? Because the film also touches on dynasty politics, indirectly mocking how political power sometimes passes like inheritance in some families — a clear jab at the Congress structure.
The Real Reason: Movie Hit Hard on Many Fronts
Empuraan is not just a movie. It’s a sharp political thriller that hits hard on real-world politics, crime, religion, and power games. Naturally, when such a movie is made, those who feel targeted try to fight back, especially online.
But despite all this online hate, Empuraan is getting massive love from the public. It’s already breaking records in Kerala, other Indian states, and overseas markets like UAE, UK, USA, and Australia. People are loving the performance, the storyline, the visuals, and the boldness of the movie.
Final Thoughts
Cinema is a powerful medium, and Empuraan proves that storytelling can shake even the biggest political foundations. While cyber groups may try to pull it down, the audience is standing strong with the movie. Because in the end, good content always wins.
Let the film roll, let the truth speak, and let art stay fearless.
